Virtual Open Day - 04 June
At Newton College, multilingualism is a core element of our educational philosophy, preparing students to become global citizens in an interconnected world.
From Early Years to the IB Diploma, students develop proficiency in English and Spanish, with the opportunity to explore other languages such as German, French and Valencian. The language programmes also prepare students for official certification from prestigious institutions such as Cambridge University, the Goethe Institute and the Alliance Française. This linguistic foundation equips students to succeed in a global society.
Students come from over 50 different nationalities.
Students focus on English and Valencian from the start.
Students have the opportunity to learn German, French.
Our students benefit from a bilingual approach that combines the British curriculum with international standards, ensuring a well-rounded learning experience.
From Early Years to the IB Diploma, they are empowered with the skills needed to succeed, nurturing their growth from their first words to their future ambitions.
English
Students use English as their main language of learning from Early Years through Sixth Form, developing fluency through full immersion in both academic and social contexts. Non-native speakers follow a tailored EAL programme that supports their integration into the English-speaking environment. Through structured immersion and personalised guidance, students gradually gain confidence and fluency, preparing successfully for official Cambridge English certifications.
Spanish
Students learn Spanish as a native language alongside English from the earliest stages. They build bilingual skills throughout their school life, with support available for international learners.
Additional languages
Students study German and French in Year 6 and may continue as optional subjects from Year 4, while all students study Valencian from Primary to Baccalaureate. They also participate in extra-curricular language activities and exam preparation.
Students receive tailored language support in English and Spanish, with immersion programmes and official exam preparation. Additional languages and extracurricular activities help them thrive on a global scale.
Our students benefit from a strengthened multilingual department, with specialist teachers in English as an Additional Language (EAL) and Spanish support. Tailored programmes are offered to help them build confidence and proficiency in both languages, ensuring they receive the necessary support to succeed in an international environment.
In our immersion programmes for non-native English or Spanish speakers, students receive tailored support through structured phases. The focus is on adapting to each student's individual needs, creating an inclusive environment where every learner can progress at their own pace.
Here at Newton, students prepare for official exams leading to certifications from Cambridge University, Goethe Institut and Alliance Française. They also benefit from the Newton Academy (Saturday School), which provides extra language support, ensuring they are fully prepared for global language qualifications.
Students at Newton College learn and grow together as part of a vibrant community. Through our Language Academy, they take part in English and Spanish classes designed especially for parents and international families. Led by experienced staff, the programme helps strengthen communication, encourage integration and support active involvement in school life.
Our approach honours students’ home languages while purposefully integrating English, Spanish and Valenciano into the classroom experience.
Alison Salis, EAL Leader/Saturday School Coordinator
At Newton College, we view multilingualism not merely as an academic asset, but as a powerful connector - fostering inclusion and expanding worldviews. Over the years, I’ve seen our students thrive as they express themselves in different languages, gaining insight through diverse cultural lenses. Our approach honours students’ home languages while purposefully integrating English, Spanish and Valenciano into the classroom experience. This reflects a deeper commitment: to nurture global citizens who think critically, embrace their identities and confidently express themselves - no matter which language they choose.
Build multilingual confidence at Newton College – where students master languages to connect, lead and thrive globally.
