Hugo Liz de Castro, originally from Portugal, grew up as the youngest of four siblings in a family that instilled in him a strong sense of community, responsibility and respect. These values have shaped not only his character but also his approach as an educator and leader.
With over 25 years of experience in education, Hugo has worked as both an educator and administrator in schools across multiple countries, always committed to delivering high-quality education. His colleagues describe him as an open-minded, principled professional with an exceptional ability to connect and collaborate with individuals from diverse cultural, religious and social backgrounds.
Hugo’s expertise in education and sports has shaped him into a confident leader and empathetic listener, capable of fostering meaningful relationships and navigating the complexities of international school communities. He firmly believes that "a school should be designed and operated to serve its community, prioritising the well-being of students above all else, fostering enriching academic experiences that are rigorous, relevant and conducive to building relationships and real-world connections."
Beyond his professional life, Hugo is deeply passionate about his family, education and the sea. A true sports enthusiast, he finds his greatest joy in kitesurfing, which reflects his adventurous spirit and drive for continuous growth - both personally and professionally.
Solange Oliveira is a highly skilled HR Manager with a strong background in Psychology. Her academic journey in Psychology has allowed her to understand human development from a variety of perspectives, enriching her role in the educational sector.
Solange joined Newton College in 2024 and, although relatively new to the institution, has quickly integrated into the community, embracing the challenges and responsibilities that come with her position. Her passion for personal and professional growth shines through as she works closely with both the teaching and non-teaching staff to align human resources with the college's core values and objectives.
Her dedication to creating an inclusive, respectful and empathetic environment reflects the key values that Newton College holds dear, such as integrity, excellence and responsibility. Mari Carmen Albert is a highly dedicated professional with a Higher Degree in Administration. Her extensive background in administrative management has shaped her passion for supporting educational institutions and ensuring their smooth operation.
Mari Carmen joined Newton College in January 2012, initially working in the Secretariat, where she quickly became an integral part of the team. Over the years, her role evolved and today she serves as the Head of Administration, playing a crucial role in maintaining the efficient day-to-day operations of the school.
Her approach to education is deeply rooted in her belief that students should develop resilience, cultural curiosity and a multicultural mindset. As both a member of the staff and a mother, Mari Carmen brings a unique perspective to her work, always striving to ensure that both students and colleagues can thrive in an inclusive, supportive environment.

Carlos Albentosa is a passionate professional with a degree in Business Administration. With a deep belief in the power of education to shape a better future, Carlos is committed to contributing to an institution that supports students in their journey to success.
Carlos joined Newton College on January 8, 2012, initially providing support in the accounting department. Through dedication and continuous training, he rose through the ranks and now serves as the Financial Director, overseeing the financial operations that ensure the school’s smooth and efficient functioning.
As Financial Director, Carlos plays a pivotal role in the management of the school’s finances, helping to create an environment where students and staff can thrive. His leadership is guided by the core values of respect and ambition, believing that it is essential for everyone to respect one another and be ambitious in their pursuits.
Carlos takes great pride in being part of the Newton College community, feeling personally connected to the institution’s mission. His commitment to helping the school function effectively is driven by the desire to ensure both students and staff are happy and fulfilled in their educational journey.
Federico Gracía de las Bayonas is a dedicated professional with a background in Technical Surveying Engineering. Though his career initially led him down a different path, life’s twists and turns guided him toward the world of education, where he has found a meaningful and rewarding purpose.
He joined Newton College in November 2022, coinciding with the start of the renovation of the Marie Curie building. From that moment on, he has been on a continuous learning journey, gaining valuable insights from his colleagues and team.
As the Facilities Manager, he is responsible for overseeing the school's infrastructure and ensuring that all spaces are safe, functional and conducive to learning. His role is crucial in maintaining an environment where students and staff can thrive.
He firmly believes that respect, love and joy are essential values - not just for Newton College students, but for all children. These principles serve as a foundation for their growth and development, fostering a positive and enriching educational experience.
What truly inspires him about being part of Newton College is the opportunity to contribute to the well-being of students. Abbie Nuttall is a passionate educator with a strong background in Science Secondary Education. She earned a first-class honours degree from Edge Hill University, where she trained for three years and obtained her Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) through hands-on experience in various schools across England.Her love for science was always present, but during her own school years, she felt the absence of a truly passionate teacher who could challenge and inspire her. This motivated her to pursue a career in education, determined to show students how exciting and essential science can be. Abbie joined Newton College in September 2015, starting as a Secondary Science teacher for Years 7 and 8. Over the years, her dedication and expertise led her to take on more responsibilities, first teaching a wider range of year groups, then becoming Head of Science and eventually stepping into her current role as Head of Secondary. She loves this position because it allows her to work closely with students, teachers and families across different year levels, ensuring a smooth transition for students moving from Year 6 to Year 7.As Head of Secondary, Abbie is committed to fostering resilience and open-mindedness in students. She believes that learning is a journey - one where mistakes are valuable opportunities for growth. Encouraging students to embrace challenges and be adaptable is crucial in a constantly evolving world. These principles align with the IB learner profile and Newton College’s core values.What inspires her most about Newton College is the unwavering dedication of its teachers to their students. She constantly sees educators going the extra mile to support, challenge and nurture young minds. For Abbie, Newton College is more than just a workplace - it’s part of her family. With her own children attending the school, she feels incredibly fortunate to lead such a vibrant community of students, supportive families and dedicated colleagues.
Macarena Hernández is an accomplished professional with a background in Journalism from the Universidad Miguel Hernández de Elche, a Master’s in Marketing and Communication Management from the Universidad Juan Carlos I and a Master’s in Digital Marketing and E-Commerce from the University of Barcelona.Macarena joined Newton College in February 2024 as Head of Marketing. In just one year, she has embraced the opportunity to lead the marketing team and drive the college’s communication strategy. This period has been full of growth, challenges and collaboration with an inspiring group of people.Macarena is committed to ensuring Newton College’s identity reflects its academic excellence and core values of unity, empathy and belonging. She focuses on building meaningful connections with the community and promoting the school’s story through strategic communication. Stephen Scott is a dedicated educator with a background in Film and Media. After working in the film and advertising industry, he returned to his former school to teach Communication and Media Studies, driven by a passion for education and storytelling.
Since joining Newton College in 2018, Stephen has embraced the challenge of giving back to both colleagues and students, continuously learning and growing in his role. As the Designated Safeguarding Lead and Communication and Media Studies teacher, he plays a key role in ensuring a safe and inspiring learning environment.
He believes that education starts with creating a space where students feel secure, encouraged and excited to learn. Beyond academics, he values empathy, assertiveness and critical thinking as essential qualities for student development.
For Stephen, Newton College is home - a place deeply connected to his personal and professional identity. His mission is to make the school a safe and supportive space where students can express themselves, build meaningful relationships and grow into confident individuals ready for the world ahead.
Linda Anne Robinson is an experienced educator with 30 years in the education field, having worked both in the UK and, for the past 17 years, in Spain. Dedicated to supporting children with learning difficulties, she finds great fulfillment in helping each student reach their potential.
As a safeguarding officer, Linda plays a vital role in promoting student well-being and ensuring a supportive and secure learning environment where every child can thrive. She believes that creating a space where students feel safe, valued, and empowered is the foundation of meaningful education.
Beyond the classroom, Linda is a proud mother of three sons and a grandmother to six wonderful grandchildren, whose presence brings constant joy and inspiration.
